Let me explain what we are doing here

Hi! For those of you I have not met, my name is Aaron Dietzen. For those of you I have met, my name is also Aaron Dietzen (pause for laughter).

In case you are the visual sort, here is a picture of me giving myself a thumbs up.

Odds are good that if you are reading this you are either familiar with my work with SketchUp, my artistic endeavors on Instagram, or you are related to me and clicked the link I shared out of pity. Regardless of the reason, you are here now and I will do my best to make it worth the click!

Now that we know who I am and who you are, let’s talk about what it is we are doing here.

What is this place?

So… this page is on SubStack which is a platform where people can write and share and keep connected with people through posts like this one and give them the ability to subscribe and get updates from individuals like myself. See, I have had a lot of different platforms in the past, but they have all been pretty disconnected. I have posted images on platforms like Instagram and videos on YouTube. I have written books that can be bought on Amazon and t-shirts that were available on Etsy. I have created content for myself and I have created content for my employer. In the end, I have had a whole bunch of stuff out there and nothing tying it all together. I am hoping to use this platform to tie it all together.

So, this is like a hub, or something?

Yeah, but not JUST that. I really want to dive into all those things I do and share them, but I want to explore the common tie between them all. What does designing a t-shirt have to do with sculpting a miniature? What does creating a 3D model of the parthenon have to do with painting an abstract painting? How does any of the stuff I do connect?

Inspiration.

The common tie to everything I do or have done has come down to inspiration. Why, how, when… it all relies on me being inspired to make or do that thing.

It’s been a while since we had a picture… take a break and enjoy me with a painting!

So, you are just going to write about what inspires you?

Wow! You have a lot of questions don’t you Header Text? Yeah, I do want to dive into what inspires me, but I want to talk about inspiration in general. As a creative what makes me start a project. More than that, though, I want to find out more about why others do what they do. I want to talk to other creatives and find out what inspires them and maybe apply some of that inspiration to my own journey.

OK, so this will just be a bunch of posts about getting inspired?

No. I don’t want to JUST create a blog here. I want to create a centerpiece of a community. I want to share things that inspire me through articles, images, interviews, podcasts, videos… I want this to be the start of something bigger than this text can convey. Honestly, I don’t know exactly what this will be, but I am really hoping that it can turn into something awesome!

Also, the last thing I want to do is stand up here and just yell things for my own benefit, so I am hoping that you all might want to Subscribe and come back and let me know what sort of content you want to see from me!
